I've owned a Canon Pro-100 for four years and turn it on only when needed without an issue. I have never left a printer on in the twenty-five years I've used one. If you connect via WiFi and leave it powered on it will not sleep since it always has to be listening for a WiFi signal.
It will automatically wake when a print signal is received.

If you connect via USB you can set an Auto Off time in the Maintenance tab of the printer driver which will let the printer "sleep" after a set time period. Similarly, if you leave printer powered on and print a nozzle check (which uses very little ink, every two days you can avoid any special cleaning cycles. So, if you only print every three weeks or more between printing doesn't matter what you do. Still larger if no printing in 240 hours and finally a cleaning cycle like cold startup after 480 hours of being idle. A larger cleaning cycle will execute if it hasn't printed in 120 hours. If you leave the printer powered on it will perform a short cleaning cycle the next time you print if it hasn't printed in 60 hours. I've left mine on since installing it yesterday lol I guess his thoughts were that turning it on and off all the time expends some ink for whatever reason.
Someone on this forum told me many moons ago that he saves ink on this Canon printer by never turning it off.
